GST Registration & Reporting

Know when you need to register, what changes once you do, and how to set up your pricing, invoices and software correctly from day one.

Overview

How we can help

Registering for GST affects your prices, invoices, cash flow and reporting. Registering too late can leave you paying GST you never collected; registering when you don't need to can add unnecessary paperwork.

We help you work out whether and when to register, set up GST correctly in your accounting software and make sure your first BAS goes smoothly.

    21 days to register

Once you reach the threshold you generally have 21 days to register.

  3. 03

    Tax invoices

GST-registered businesses generally need to provide a tax invoice when asked for taxable sales over $82.50 (including GST).

FAQs

Common questions

General information only. Your circumstances may differ — contact us for advice specific to you.

Should I register for GST voluntarily?

It can make sense if your customers are mostly GST-registered businesses or you have large start-up purchases. If you sell mainly to consumers, it may increase your prices. We can model both options.

What if I should have registered earlier?

You may owe GST from the date you should have been registered. Acting quickly limits the impact — contact us as soon as you realise.

Can I cancel my GST registration?

Generally yes, if your turnover falls below the threshold, though if you registered voluntarily you usually need to stay registered for at least 12 months.
