Individual Taxation
Tax Returns for Salary & Wage Earners
Even a straightforward return deserves a careful review. We check your income, claim the deductions you're entitled to and explain the outcome before anything is lodged.
Overview
How we can help
If you're an employee, most of your income details are reported to the ATO by your employer through Single Touch Payroll. That makes lodgement simpler — but it doesn't mean everything is automatically right, or that you've claimed all you can.
We compare your income statement with your own records, look at deductions relevant to your occupation, and check items people commonly overlook, such as private health insurance details, interest income and employment termination payments.

- 01
Income statements
Your employer reports your pay through Single Touch Payroll. Your income statement is available in ATO online services through myGov and should be marked 'tax ready' before you lodge.
- 02
Two jobs, one tax-free threshold
If you have more than one employer, you can generally only claim the tax-free threshold from one of them. Claiming it twice can leave you with a tax bill at year end.
- 03
Working from home
You can generally use either the fixed-rate method or the actual-cost method — each has specific record-keeping requirements, including a record of the hours you worked from home.

FAQs
Common questions
General information only. Your circumstances may differ — contact us for advice specific to you.
Why do I owe tax when my employer already withheld it?
Common reasons include claiming the tax-free threshold from two employers, income outside your job such as interest or investments, or not enough tax withheld from a bonus. We'll explain what caused it and how to avoid it next year.
Can I claim my work uniform?
You can generally claim occupation-specific clothing, protective clothing and compulsory uniforms with a logo. Conventional clothing such as a plain black suit is generally not deductible, even if your employer requires you to wear it.
How long does a salary and wage return take?
Once your income statement is tax ready and we have your records, a straightforward return is usually prepared quickly. We'll confirm timeframes when you book.
