Overview
How we can help
Property investing involves tax decisions at every stage: how to structure ownership and borrowing, what you can claim each year, and what happens when you eventually sell.
We look after the annual reporting for each property, keep your cost-base records in order, and help you understand the tax implications before you buy, refinance, renovate or sell.

Good to Know
Key things to know
- 01
Interest follows the purpose
Whether interest is deductible depends on what the borrowed money was used for — not what the loan is secured against. Redrawing for private purposes can reduce your deductions.
- 02
Keep cost-base records
Purchase costs, stamp duty, legal fees and capital improvements can reduce the capital gain when you sell — but only if you keep the records.
- 03
Victorian land tax
Investment properties in Victoria may be subject to land tax, administered by the State Revenue Office. Land tax on an income-producing property is generally deductible.

FAQs
Common questions
General information only. Your circumstances may differ — contact us for advice specific to you.
Whose name should we buy in?
It depends on each owner's income, the expected cash flow of the property and long-term plans. We can model the outcomes — though once purchased, changing ownership can trigger costs and tax.
Can I claim travel to inspect my property?
Travel expenses relating to residential rental properties are generally not deductible for individual investors.
Should I use a trust or company to hold property?
Structures can offer benefits but add cost and complexity, and companies don't get the CGT discount. We'll explain the trade-offs alongside your legal adviser.
